EuroDIG planning process

EuroDIG takes place in a different European country every year thus bringing in new people constantly.  The local community always plays an important role in the planning process, while the European network behind EuroDIG guarantees stability and continuity.

EuroDIG is more than just a conference, where the programme is organised top-down by a small committee. It is a platform where YOU set the agenda and can work collaboratively, with other stakeholders, across the continent and shape the sessions. You are invited to contribute at any stage!

The date and the venue of EuroDIG 2027 will be announced here shortly.

Which issues should be discussed in Europe in 2027?

27.10.2025 – 31.12.2025

We ask for issues (not for session proposals) of high interest to many stakeholders across Europe.
The call for issues will start soon here and be open until 31 December 2026. From the results potential Focus Areas for the 2027 EuroDIG programme will be identified by the EuroDIG Programme Committee that supports the programme planning process throughout the year and works closely with the Secretariat.

To structure the proposals, we suggest the following categories:

Access & literacy Development of IG ecosystem Human rights Innovation and economic issues Media & content Security and crime Technical & operational issues Cross cutting / other issues

Programme planning for 2027

01.01.2026 – 28.02.2026

The development of the programme is directed by a Programme Committee and is based on the Call for Issues and contributions from the community. We inform about each step we take and where community input is needed via our social media channels and the info letter.

We will shortly be providing information here on the modalities and composition of the 2027 Programme Committee.

Join the Org Teams!

01.03.2026 – 25.05.2026

“Always open, always inclusive and never too late to participate!”
At EuroDIG, we support collaborative session planning where everyone is invited to participate. The work is organised via mailing lists and the EuroDIG wiki as collaborative tool.

Session principles

Results and quality of a session depend on inclusive and broad based participation. To maintain transparency and an effective interactive dialogue, we ask everyone to respect the following principles:

  • focus on the emerging issues on the European agenda
  • avoid duplication or “just more of the same” (Check the wiki archive for previous years!)
  • avoid seminar style (not a series of presentations)
  • time distribution: 50/50 – speakers / audience
  • each speaker – 3 min “punchy” statements (timer)
  • not more than 4 speakers in Workshops
  • include the (remote) audience as much and early as possible
  • stakeholder diversity – gender, age and geographical balance (include youth in your session)
  • communicate on the mailing list only
  • 50% of speakers and a moderator must be on-site
  • publish all information about your session on the EuroDIG wiki as soon as possible

Session formats

Welcome, Key note(s)

These sessions are in the responsibility of the secretariat in cooperation with the host. This is the place where high ranking politicians and experts address the audience.

Main Topics / Subtopics

These sessions are organised in a multistakeholder bottom-up manner. Anyone interested in the topic can become a member of the Org Team. The EuroDIG session principles apply.

Workshops

Workshops are organised in a multistakeholder bottom-up manner. Anyone interested in the topic can become a member of the Org Team. Workshops should NOT be designed like a small plenary. Please try interactive formats and session styles (open discourse, world cafe, round table). The EuroDIG session principles apply.

Pre-events

Pre sessions are held by organisations. These Pre-events should create synergies with the major event in terms of participation and expertise. The EuroDIG session principles do not apply.

Session roles

Programme Committee

The Programme Committee supports the programme planning process and works closely with the Secretariat. Members of the committee give advice on the topics, cluster the proposals and assist session organisers in their work. They also ensure that session principles are followed and overlook the complete programme to avoid repetition among sessions.

Focal Point

Focal Points take over the responsibility and lead of the session organisation. They work in close cooperation with the respective member of the Programme Committee and the EuroDIG Secretariat and are kindly requested to follow EuroDIG’s session principles. Find the Focal Point briefing 2026 here.

Organising Team (Org Team)

The Org Team is shaping the session. Org Teams are open, and every interested individual can become a member by subscribing to the mailing list.

Key Participants

Key Participants (also speakers) are experts willing to provide their knowledge during a session. Key Participants should contribute to the session planning process and keep statements short and punchy during the session. They will be selected and assigned by the Org Team, ensuring a stakeholder balanced dialogue also considering gender and geographical balance. Please provide short CV’s of the Key Participants at the Wiki or link to another source.

Moderator

The moderator is the facilitator of the session at the event they must attend on-site. Moderators are responsible for including the audience and encouraging a lively interaction among all session attendants. Please make sure the moderator takes a neutral role and can balance between all speakers. Please provide short CV of the moderator of your session at the Wiki or link to another source.

Remote Moderator

Trained remote moderators will be assigned by the EuroDIG secretariat to each session.

Reporter

The members of the Programme Committee report on the session and formulate messages that are agreed with the audience by consensus.

Through a cooperation with the Geneva Internet Platform AI generated session reports and stats will be available after EuroDIG.

EuroDIG messages

Messages are compiled from Main Topic sessions and Workshops and form the main output of the annual EuroDIG. The messages are presented to the global Internet Governance Forum that is convened by the United Nations with a view to contributing to global, other regional and national debates on Internet governance. Have a look at previous messages at the wiki archive.

EuroDIG wiki

The EuroDIG wiki is the place where we publish the programme and all session information’s. It is our archive but also a collaboration platform for Org Teams, and increases the inclusiveness and transparency of the EuroDIG process. You can become a member of an Org Team simply by subscribing to one of the session mailing lists. Go to wiki!

Participate at the event

12.05.2025 – 14.05.2025

During the annual EuroDIG event everybody can participate at any stage. The audience has equal speaking rights as speaker on a panel.

EuroDIG will be organised as a hybrid event which offers equal opportunities for remote and on-site participants. Registration will be free of charge but mandatory.

Our budget is very tight and far from being sustainable. In order to continue our work, we would appreciate voluntary contributions via our

donation platform
