We continue our series highlighting the thematic outcomes of EuroDIG 2026 by giving each session and its Messages dedicated attention. The EuroDIG Messages are the primary outcomes of the meeting, capturing the key inputs, perspectives and discussions from each session. They reflect a European multistakeholder view on a wide range of digital policy issues, providing both an overview of the current state of debate and concrete policy considerations.

This week, we focus on sessions that explored the WSIS+20 review process, Internet standards, and the future of Internet governance.

Messages of Main Topic 1: WSIS+20 Review Outcomes and the Path to Implementation

This main session, together with Workshop 7, contributed to the development of EuroDIG Messages related to the UN WSIS+20 Review. During the session, European stakeholders exchanged views on the outcomes of the Review process and reflected on its broader implications. Discussions examined the Review’s achievements, remaining challenges, and priorities for implementation in the years ahead.

This workshop explored what lessons from the Internet’s development can inform the governance of emerging technologies. Participants discussed the gap between standards development and deployment, the economic challenges of adoption—including first-mover disadvantage—and the respective roles of governments, the technical community, the private sector and civil society in translating open standards into practical implementation.
