YOUthDIG – Youth Dialogue on Internet Governance

17 – 19 June 2023, YOUthDIG | 19 – 21 June 2023, EuroDIG

The Youth Dialogue on Internet Governance (YOUthDIG) is a yearly pre-event to the European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) aimed to foster active youth participation. Young people (ages 18-30) from the pan-European region with a strong interest in Internet governance, digital policy and cooperation are working together to draft and advocate for the youth messages.

Every year the YOUthDIG Organising Team is compiled of former YOUthDIG participants who design the programme for the upcoming edition. This is a chance to reflect and improve the programme from last editions, build further connections with YOUthDIG alumni and the EuroDIG community and to provide an opportunity for young people throughout Europe to participate in the Internet Governance Ecosystem focusing on topics that are important to youth in the field.

Pre 2: Progressing Core Internet Values and Global Good Practice for the Internet of Things

19 June 2023 | 10:00 – 11:30 EEST | Auditorium A3 | Video recording

Join us to help develop a clear vision on Global Good Practice for IoT towards 2030, taking into account where we are in IoT deployment, policy and regulatory developments around the world, and the role of AI/ML in governing IoT ecosystems, based on Core Internet Values. The aim is to develop a contribution to the UN Global Digital Compact Summit in September 2024, based on the current IoT Global Good Practice document and making best use of multistakeholder meetings such as discussions during regional IGFs. Key in this to further develop the concept of what it means to have “meaningful transparency” to all stakeholders in the chain, and “real accountability” to those stakeholders that can reasonably expected to bear that responsibility.

This activity is a collaboration between DC CIV, DC IoT, with the support of DC IS3C and linked to the Policy Network on Artificial Intelligence and other relevant DC activities.

Recent years have shed a spotlight on the importance of empowering youth in governance processes. The European Union (EU) and the Association of South Asian Nations (ASEAN) dedicated 2022 to youth, and the Commonwealth dedicated 2023. The United Nations (UN) Secretary General included in his report Our Common Agenda recommendations for “meaningful, diverse, and effective youth engagement through better political representation, transforming education, skills training, and lifelong learning.” There have been youth events at EuroDIG since it’s the early years and it is time to look back on a decade of youth participation in Europe and beyond.

What is the optimal ecosystem to accelerate the space of data driven health technologies? Are there better ways to build back stronger and faster? What should we pursue and what should we shed, from the experience of using telemedicine during the Covid pandemic? How should we prepare ourselves for the use of robots in our midst?

Imagine how Internet and ICT security could improve when large organisations, public and private, start using their buying power and demand ICT and IoT products, services and devices to be made secure by design? That they demand that long-existing, security-related, open-source Internet standards and ICT best practices would be used actively by designers and deployed by manufacturers?

In this workshop we want to hear from you: Are we on the right track with our concept, policy advise and toolkit for governments and others? Join and let us know!
